Viewing properties
Once you have short-listed the properties you would be interested
in viewing, let us know and we will book appointments for
you with our partner agents. There are several alternatives
when travelling to the area and we can suggest several choices
if you need accommodation.
If you think you need three days for your trip, take four.
Let’s not forget why you are doing this! It’s
not a bad idea to take a day or two prior to your viewing
days, not only to familiarise yourself with the area but importantly,
to rest. You may not make the best decisions, if you are still
tired from your travel.
Once with the agent, allow yourself some time to take details
and if possible a plan of the place you are going to see.
(Just the extract from the cadastral plan if they have it.
They won’t have a floor layout plan.) Take a camera
and note down your sequence of photographs. If you have seen
several properties, by the end of the day you may confuse
them. Bring your own pens and have your own regional map (preferable
one that you do not mind marking.)
Don’t be surprised if you see your agent close the
shop behind you as you leave. The cost of employing staff
is so high, that many agencies are a one or two man show.
Taking you around may require the agency to close!
It is obviously mutually beneficial to screen out viewings
that are a waste of time. You may spend a great deal of time
in the car as properties may be fairly spread out. Be realistic
about the amount of works you are willing to undertake. Your
partner, if you have one, may well have a differing view on
this and it’s well to be clear between you!
You will probably have to sign a “bon de visite”
which most agents require before taking you to see property.
If it’s a renovation property make sure you are dressed
for the expedition. You may have to scramble over walls or
tramp through nettles!
It may be an idea to sketch an internal layout to go with the details and
your photos. If there is work to be done on the property we will try to
point you in the right direction.
